What is Emory University known for academically?

I’m trying to figure out how Emory’s academic reputation compares to other schools I’m looking at. I know the name comes up a lot, but I’m not sure which majors, departments, or academic strengths it’s actually best known for.

I’m a high school student building my college list, so I’m trying to understand what stands out about Emory academically in a general sense.

Emory is especially known for the health sciences, business, and the humanities and social sciences. Its strongest academic reputation is closely tied to Emory School of Medicine, the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, public health through the Rollins School of Public Health, and major research connections with the CDC in Atlanta. Among undergraduates, Goizueta Business School is also one of the university’s most recognized academic strengths.

In a general sense, Emory stands out as a mid-sized research university with strong pre-med preparation, serious research opportunities, and a liberal arts feel in many classes. Biology, neuroscience and behavioral biology, chemistry, psychology, political science, economics, and English are all well regarded.

Another thing that makes Emory distinctive is the combination of strong academics with access to Atlanta. Students benefit from internships, hospital systems, nonprofit work, policy opportunities, and research partnerships that are harder to replicate in more isolated college settings. The university is also known for faculty engagement and for encouraging undergraduate research relatively early.

If you are comparing reputations broadly, Emory is usually seen as strongest in pre-health, nursing, public health, business, and several social science and humanities areas, rather than engineering or architecture.
