What is the purpose of Drexel's Common App supplement and how important is it in admissions?

I'm applying to Drexel and noticed they have extra questions in addition to the main Common App sections. I'm trying to understand what colleges are usually looking for with a school-specific supplement like this, and whether it plays a big role compared to the rest of the application.

I'm a senior and want to make sure I put the right amount of effort into that part instead of treating it like just a formality.

Drexel’s Common App supplement is not just a formality. Its main purpose is to show why Drexel specifically fits your goals and to help the admissions team gauge your interest, academic direction, and understanding of what makes the university distinct. At a school like Drexel, where co-op, hands-on learning, and career preparation are central to the student experience, the supplement is one of the clearest places to show that you understand and actually want that model.

In practice, colleges use supplements to answer questions the main Common App cannot fully cover: why this school, why this major, and how you would use particular opportunities there. For Drexel, that often means connecting your interests to things like the cooperative education program, experiential learning, research, Philadelphia location, combined degrees, or specific academic programs. If your answers feel generic and could be sent to any college, that usually weakens the application.

As for importance, it is usually less important than your overall academic record, but still very meaningful. The supplement can help distinguish two students with similar grades or activities.
