How much does it matter if my Drexel supplemental essay is under the word count?

I’m applying to Drexel and my supplemental essay answers feel complete before I get close to the maximum word count. I can add more detail, but I’m worried it will just sound repetitive.

I’m trying to figure out whether being well under the word count looks bad, or if it’s fine as long as the response is thoughtful and answers the prompt clearly.

Being under Drexel’s word count is usually fine as long as your response fully answers the prompt and feels specific to you and to Drexel. Admissions readers do not expect you to hit the maximum, and padding just to get closer to the limit usually makes an essay weaker. What matters more is whether the essay is clear, concrete, and gives them useful insight into your fit with the school.

For Drexel specifically, the best supplement responses usually do two things: they answer the prompt directly and show real knowledge of Drexel through details like co-op, academic programs, hands-on learning, or Philadelphia opportunities if those are genuinely relevant to you. If your essay already does that, you do not need to force extra sentences.
