What are the best next steps after being deferred from Fordham?

I’m a senior and Fordham is one of my top choices, so getting deferred was pretty discouraging. I’m trying to figure out what actually helps after a deferral and what I should focus on doing now.

I want to make sure my next steps are useful and not just random extra materials that won’t matter.

After a Fordham deferral, the most useful next step is to send a brief letter of continued interest if Fordham allows it through your applicant portal or admissions office. Keep it focused: clearly say Fordham is still one of your top choices, confirm that you would like to remain under consideration, and include meaningful updates since you applied.

Those updates should be concrete and recent, such as stronger first semester grades, a new leadership role, an award, a project, or a deeper connection to Fordham through a program, class, or campus event. If Fordham is truly your first choice and you would attend if admitted, you can say that directly, but only if you mean it.

Your midyear grades matter a lot, so make sure your counselor sends them promptly. If your first semester grades improved, that is one of the strongest things you can add to your file.

You can also ask your counselor, and sometimes one teacher, whether they can send a short update or recommendation if there is genuinely new information to share. Do not flood Fordham with extra materials, repeated emails, or generic enthusiasm. One strong update is better than several small ones.
