How does need-based financial aid work at Fordham University?

I’m a high school junior trying to figure out whether Fordham could be affordable for my family. We would need a lot of help to make a private college possible.

I’m mainly trying to understand how Fordham calculates and gives need-based aid, and whether students usually have to rely a lot on loans as part of that package.

Fordham offers need-based aid using information from the FAFSA and, for many students, the CSS Profile. They look at your family’s income, assets, household size, number of children in college, and some other financial details to estimate how much your family can contribute. Your demonstrated need is basically the difference between Fordham’s cost of attendance and that institutional calculation.

Need-based aid at Fordham can include university grants, federal and state grants if you qualify, work-study, and federal student loans. In practice, that means a financial aid package is often a mix rather than all grant money. If your family needs a lot of help, the biggest question is how much of your need Fordham actually meets with grants versus self-help like loans and work-study.
