How selective is admission to the University of Vermont Honors College for incoming freshmen?

I’m a high school junior looking at UVM, and I’m especially interested in the Honors College because I like smaller classes and research opportunities.

I’m trying to figure out how competitive Honors admission usually is compared to regular admission so I can tell whether it’s more of a reach for me.

Admission to the University of Vermont Honors College is meaningfully more selective than general UVM admission. UVM as a whole is moderately selective, but the Honors College admits a smaller group of incoming students with stronger academic profiles, so it should usually be treated as a step up in competitiveness.

For incoming first-years, Honors applicants are typically expected to be near the top of the UVM applicant pool academically. In practice, that often means a very strong GPA in a rigorous course load, especially with honors, AP, IB, or dual enrollment classes when available. If test scores are submitted, they usually need to be on the high end of UVM’s range to help.

The exact admit rate for the Honors College is not always published in a consistent way each year, so it is better to think of it as selective rather than trying to pin everything on one percentage. It is very possible to be admitted to UVM but not to the Honors College.

If you want a realistic sense of your chances, compare your GPA, course rigor, and any available scores to UVM’s admitted student profile, then ask whether you are above that baseline by a noticeable margin.
