What is the student life vibe like at the University of Vermont?

I’m a high school junior looking into UVM and trying to get a feel for what day-to-day student life is actually like there.

I’ve heard people describe some colleges as super outdoorsy, socially active, or more laid-back, and I’m curious where UVM fits in.

At the University of Vermont, the student life vibe is generally outdoorsy, socially active, and fairly laid-back, with a strong emphasis on balancing academics and enjoying Burlington. A lot of students take advantage of the location near Lake Champlain, the bike paths, and easy access to skiing, hiking, and other outdoor activities. At the same time, UVM has a busy campus social scene, especially because Burlington itself adds restaurants, shops, live music, and events just off campus.

Day to day, you’ll see a mix of students studying hard, heading to classes in a walkable campus, and then spending time outside or downtown with friends. The school has a reputation for being environmentally aware and health-conscious, so that outdoor, active culture is a real part of the student experience. You’ll also find plenty of students involved in clubs, service, Greek life, and intramurals, so it’s not just one type of person or one type of weekend.
