Which college is better for internships, Villanova or George Mason?

The biggest practical tradeoff is network density versus campus setting: George Mason gives you day-to-day access to the Washington, DC and Northern Virginia internship market, while Villanova gives you a more traditional suburban campus with strong access to Philadelphia and a powerful alumni network.

George Mason is especially attractive if you want policy, government, international affairs, public health, cybersecurity, economics, or tech-adjacent work. Its proximity to DC matters a lot because students can realistically hold internships during the semester, not just in the summer, and that often leads to stronger resumes by graduation.

Villanova does well in fields where alumni connections carry real weight, particularly business through the School of Business, along with accounting, finance, marketing, and some pre-health paths. Philadelphia is a solid internship city, and Villanova students can absolutely build strong experience, but it may take a bit more intentional planning around transportation, timing, and networking.

If internship access is the main factor by a clear margin, I’d give George Mason the advantage because the location creates more consistent semester-time opportunities across a wider set of employers.
