Villanova or NYU for finance recruiting: which is better for getting internships and analyst roles?
I’m trying to decide between Villanova and NYU and finance recruiting is one of the biggest factors for me. I want a school that gives me a strong shot at internships and eventual analyst roles, especially in business or finance.
I know both have good reputations, but I’m not sure how much the recruiting outcomes actually differ in practice.

The biggest practical tradeoff is access versus structure. NYU gives you unmatched day-to-day proximity to firms in New York, which can make networking, semester internships, and coffee chats much easier, while Villanova tends to offer a more traditional campus experience with a strong business school pipeline and a tighter, more guided undergraduate environment. In practice, both can lead to finance internships and analyst roles, but they often do so through different recruiting rhythms.
For finance specifically, NYU has a real advantage in location and volume of opportunity. Being in New York matters for part-time internships during the school year, attending employer events, and building contacts without needing to travel. Stern is especially well known with finance employers, and even outside Stern, the NYU name carries weight in the city’s recruiting ecosystem.
Villanova is not out of the picture at all. The business school has a solid reputation, alumni are notably loyal, and the school places well into finance, especially for students who are organized early and use alumni connections well. It can feel more personal than a huge urban university, and some students benefit from that clearer structure when preparing for recruiting.
The main difference in outcomes is usually strongest at the very top end of recruiting intensity. If you are aiming for highly competitive analyst paths and want the densest concentration of employer access, NYU, particularly Stern, tends to create more built-in opportunities. Villanova can still get you there, but it may require more deliberate outreach and less convenient access to firms during the semester.
If the NYU option is Stern and the cost is manageable, NYU has the stronger edge for finance recruiting. If your NYU option is not Stern, or if Villanova is meaningfully more affordable, Villanova becomes a very reasonable choice because it still has credible finance placement and a strong undergraduate business environment.
