Florida State or Ohio State for finance careers: which is better?

I’m trying to decide between Florida State and Ohio State, and I want to study finance. My main goal is to go into a finance career after college, so I’m trying to figure out which school would give me a stronger path for recruiting, internships, and getting my first job.

I’m not looking at other majors right now, just which one seems like the better choice for finance overall.

For finance specifically, Ohio State usually offers the stronger runway. Fisher has a broader national recruiting presence, Columbus gives you access to a large corporate and financial hub while you’re in school, and Ohio State’s size creates more alumni reach across banking, corporate finance, consulting, and related fields.

That does not mean Florida State is a weak option. FSU can work very well for a student who wants a more Florida-centered path, especially into corporate finance, commercial banking, real estate, or roles tied to the Southeast. But if the question is which school gives the more robust overall platform for finance recruiting, Ohio State has the edge.

Ohio State tends to fit the student who wants maximum scale and is ready to use it. There are more employers on campus, more student organizations with finance pipelines, and more chances to compete for selective business experiences early. That environment can be excellent for someone aiming at a wider range of outcomes, including high-level corporate finance and more structured recruiting channels.

FSU makes more sense for the student who wants a solid business education at a school with strong value, then build toward internships through persistence and regional networking. Its connections are strongest in Florida, and that can be a real advantage if you want to stay in that market after graduation. Tallahassee is less of a finance hub than Columbus, though, so you may need to be more intentional about reaching beyond the immediate area.

For first-job outcomes, I would lean Ohio State unless cost is meaningfully lower at FSU or you are very set on building your career in Florida. In finance, school brand and alumni access matter most at the internship and recruiting stage, and Ohio State tends to provide more of both.
