Which is better for undergraduate business: Florida State University or the University of Richmond?
I’m a high school senior deciding between Florida State and the University of Richmond for an undergraduate business degree. I’m mainly trying to compare the overall strength and opportunities of their business programs so I can choose the better academic fit.

For undergraduate business, the University of Richmond is the stronger academic choice for most students, particularly if you value small classes, close faculty access, and structured recruiting support. Its Robins School of Business is built around an undergraduate-focused liberal arts university, so business students typically receive more individualized advising and a more intimate classroom experience. Florida State has a solid, AACSB-accredited College of Business, but it operates at a much larger public-university scale.
Richmond’s smaller student body can be a meaningful advantage for internships and career development. Robins students have access to dedicated career programming, alumni connections, and recruiting pathways in fields such as finance, accounting, consulting, marketing, and analytics; the school’s location in Richmond also places students near a substantial regional business and finance community. The university’s liberal arts structure encourages business students to pair professional preparation with strong writing, quantitative, and communication skills.
Florida State offers broader scale and a particularly useful network in Florida and the Southeast. Its College of Business has established options in areas including finance, accounting, management information systems, marketing, real estate, and risk management/insurance, along with the advantages of a large campus, extensive student organizations, and Tallahassee’s connections to state government and public-sector work. For a student seeking a big-school environment or planning to build a career in Florida, FSU can provide excellent opportunities.
Cost should carry real weight in this comparison. Richmond’s experience is more personalized and often stronger for students pursuing selective business careers, but FSU may be the more sensible decision if it is substantially less expensive, especially with in-state tuition or major scholarships. The academic gap is not so large that taking on significantly more debt for Richmond automatically makes sense.
