One concrete difference is employer access through location and scale. Villanova students can tap into the Philadelphia market during the school year much more easily, which matters for part-time internships and in-semester experience. Rutgers also benefits from being near New York City, Newark, and New Jersey’s corporate corridor, but the university is much larger, so students often need to be more proactive to stand out and navigate the system.

Another differentiator is recruiting structure. Villanova’s smaller size usually means more personalized career advising, tighter alumni networks, and less internal competition for attention from recruiters. At Rutgers, there are absolutely many internship opportunities, especially in business, pharma, tech, and government, but access can feel less curated simply because there are so many students pursuing them.

A third factor is what kind of experience you want while in school. Villanova often makes it easier to build close faculty and alumni relationships that can turn into leads, referrals, and internships earlier in college.
