Which school is better for finance careers: Florida State or NYU?

For finance careers, NYU is the clearer advantage, especially if you mean investment banking, high finance, asset management, or other roles where recruiting pipelines matter a lot. NYU’s location in New York gives students direct access to internships during the school year, frequent employer events, and a much denser alumni presence in finance. Its Stern School of Business is also one of the most recognized undergraduate business programs in the country, which matters in recruiter perception.

NYU makes the most sense for a student who wants to be surrounded by finance opportunities from the start and is ready for a fast, career-oriented environment. Being in Manhattan means students can intern part-time during the semester, attend firm presentations more easily, and build connections without needing to wait for summer recruiting. For students targeting front-office finance, that proximity is a real advantage, not just a prestige talking point.

Florida State can still work well for a student who wants a more traditional campus experience, lower cost, and a path into finance that may be broader or more regional. FSU has solid business programs and can place students into finance roles, especially if they are proactive, use alumni networks well, and pursue strong internships. It is more likely to require extra hustle for the most competitive Wall Street paths, simply because the recruiting ecosystem is not as concentrated or immediate as NYU’s.

If your goal is specifically to maximize access to top finance recruiting, NYU has the stronger platform. If cost is dramatically lower at FSU and you would thrive there academically and socially, it can still lead to finance outcomes, but the path is less built-in and more dependent on your own networking and execution.
