Is Florida State or Boston College better for finance majors?

I'm a high school senior trying to decide between Florida State and Boston College, and finance is the main major I'm considering. I know both schools are respected, but I'm trying to figure out which one would be the stronger choice specifically for finance.

I'm mostly thinking about how well each school is viewed for finance opportunities and preparing for jobs after college.

For finance specifically, Boston College usually has the stronger edge in reputation, alumni reach, and recruiting access, especially if you are aiming at investment banking, asset management, or finance roles in the Northeast. Its Carroll School of Management is one of the most established undergraduate business schools in the country, and being near Boston helps with internships during the school year. BC also has a very active alumni network in finance, which matters a lot when recruiting is relationship-driven.

Boston College tends to fit the student who wants a more finance-centered undergraduate business environment from the start. You would be in a school built around business disciplines, surrounded by many classmates targeting similar paths, and that often creates stronger peer pressure in a good way around internships, clubs, and recruiting prep. If your goal is to maximize access to traditional high-finance pipelines and you are comfortable in a more selective, career-focused business setting, BC is the clearer option.

Florida State makes more sense for someone who wants solid finance preparation at a lower cost or a broader big-school experience. FSU’s College of Business is well regarded, and students do place into strong jobs, particularly in Florida and the Southeast. Its location in Tallahassee is less of a natural finance hub than Boston, but FSU can still work well for corporate finance, commercial banking, real estate, wealth management, and regional recruiting.

FSU is especially attractive if you are cost-conscious, want a large public university environment, or are not fully set on a narrow Wall Street-type track. A motivated student at FSU can absolutely build a strong finance outcome, but it often takes more self-direction in networking and internship hunting than at BC.

So if the question is which school is viewed more strongly for finance opportunities and finance recruiting, Boston College has the advantage. If value, school spirit, and strong outcomes in Florida or the broader Southeast matter more, Florida State can be the smarter pick.
