Which school is better for internships: Villanova or Santa Clara?

The biggest practical tradeoff is geography versus breadth: Santa Clara gives you day-to-day access to Silicon Valley employers during the school year, while Villanova places you near a major East Coast market with stronger reach into Philadelphia, New York, and surrounding industries.

Santa Clara’s location is a real advantage if you want part-time internships during the academic year. Being in Santa Clara means students can more easily commute to companies nearby, attend employer events, and tap into a local alumni network that is deeply embedded in the Bay Area job market. That kind of proximity matters because many internships come from repeated contact, coffee chats, and quick follow-up opportunities, not just formal applications.

Villanova also offers strong employer connections, but the experience is a little different. Its network is loyal and well established, and the school has a solid reputation with employers, especially across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. The internship path may rely a bit more on structured recruiting, alumni outreach, and traveling into Philadelphia or using summer internships in larger cities rather than constant proximity to one dominant industry hub.

If your main goal is maximizing internship access during the school year, Santa Clara is the more favorable option. If you want a broader East Coast network and are more interested in business, finance, healthcare, or communications, Villanova can be just as valuable, but in a less locally concentrated way.
