When do UC Berkeley admission decisions come out?

I’m trying to figure out the timeline for hearing back from UC Berkeley about admissions. I submitted my application at the end of November like everyone else, and now the waiting is honestly driving me a little crazy, since Berkeley is one of my top choices.

For anyone who’s applied in recent years or is familiar with the process, when do Berkeley decisions typically get released? Is there a specific date, or does it change every year? I’ve heard some people say late March, but I’d like to know how accurate that is and if students usually get emailed or need to check an application portal. Any info on what the notification process is like would be appreciated!

UC Berkeley usually releases its freshman admission decisions in late March. Over the past several years, decisions have typically come out between March 24 and March 30. While the exact date might shift by a day or two from year to year, you can expect to hear back during the last full week of March.

The official announcement generally doesn’t happen with much advance notice. The university often updates the 'MAP@Berkeley' applicant portal first before sending out any email notifications. So, it’s a good idea to keep an eye on your portal starting around March 20th and to check your email frequently. In many cases, students learn through social media or online forums that the portal has updated, so you might see a surge of chatter right before decisions are posted.

Here’s how it typically works: You'll log in to your MAP@Berkeley account, and if a decision is available, there will be a status update or a new message. An official email usually follows within a few hours letting you know that your decision is ready. For example, last year, UC Berkeley released first-year admission decisions on March 30. Accepted students were able to see a letter in the portal and received an email soon after with more details about next steps, like virtual events and resources.

Bottom line: plan for late March, check your portal regularly, and watch for both portal updates and emails. Best of luck with the wait—you're almost at the finish line!
