How do I check my UC Berkeley application status?
I'm currently a senior who applied to UC Berkeley this year, but I'm a little confused about how to find out my application status. I got an email after I submitted my application with a login to the portal, but I'm not sure exactly where to go or what I should be looking for in terms of updates or decisions.
Is there a specific place on the portal where they post changes to your status? Also, do they send you an email if there's any update, or do you have to check it on your own all the time? Just kind of anxious and I want to make sure I don't miss anything important. Would appreciate any advice on how to keep track of my application's progress!

To keep track of your UC Berkeley application status, you’ll want to mainly use the Cal Central portal. After submitting your application, you should have received an email with instructions to set up your CalNet ID, which then gives you access to Cal Central (calcentral.berkeley.edu). This is where official updates about your application will appear.
Once you’ve logged in, go to the 'My Application' or 'Admissions' section on the dashboard. Here, you’ll see your application checklist, which tracks documents or items UC Berkeley still needs from you, like transcripts or test scores. If your checklist shows that everything has been submitted, then you’re all set and just need to wait for a decision. When a decision is made (whether it’s admission, waitlist, or denial), your status will change there and typically a formal letter or notification becomes available for download.
Berkeley usually emails you when there’s a major update, like when your decision is posted. Make sure to check the email you listed on your UC application—also check your spam/junk folder just in case. Even though they send a notification when a final decision is made, some updates (like checklist changes or requests for more information) might not trigger an email, so it’s a good idea to check Cal Central every week or two.
For example, if admissions needs an official transcript or there’s a missing item, it’ll be flagged on your checklist. A friend last year missed a transcript request for a few days because they didn’t log in to check, so it’s smart to peek in regularly.
If you ever have trouble logging in or notice something odd, don’t hesitate to contact UC Berkeley’s admissions office—they’re used to helping applicants troubleshoot portal issues.
So, main things: use Cal Central for status updates, check your email regularly, and keep an eye out for any checklist notifications. This way, you won’t miss any important info about your application!
