University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign vs UC Berkeley for academic prestige: which is more respected overall?

The biggest practical tradeoff is broad name recognition versus certain department-specific strengths. UC Berkeley tends to carry more overall academic prestige across a wider range of fields, and its name is more immediately recognized nationally and internationally as an elite public university.
