Which school has a better urban campus, Tulane or Boston University?

The biggest tradeoff is integrated city life versus a more defined campus bubble. Boston University is woven directly into Boston along Commonwealth Avenue, with academic buildings, residence halls, shops, transit, and city streets all mixed together. Tulane sits in New Orleans, but its main Uptown campus feels more self-contained and residential, even though it is close to major city neighborhoods.

If you want the stronger true urban campus experience, Boston University has the edge. BU feels like part of the city every day: the Green Line runs alongside campus, the Charles River is nearby, and you are constantly moving through an active urban corridor rather than stepping in and out of a separate campus zone. It is very walkable, but in a city-grid way, where your walk includes traffic, storefronts, apartments, and public transit.

Tulane is also in a city, but the feel is different. Its campus is more traditional, greener, and easier to experience as its own enclosed environment. You can walk to parts of Uptown New Orleans and you are near areas like Audubon Park and Magazine Street, but the city does not flow through campus in the same way it does at BU. That makes Tulane feel less intensely urban on a daily basis, even though New Orleans itself is distinctive and lively.

For campus feel alone, BU is the closer match to what most students mean by a school that is truly connected to the city. Tulane gives you better separation between campus and city life, while BU gives you less separation and more constant urban immersion.
