Is Florida State University or the University of Washington better for tech jobs?

The University of Washington is the stronger choice for tech jobs. Its location in Seattle puts you in the middle of one of the biggest tech hiring markets in the country, and that shows up in day-to-day access to internships, employer events, and alumni already working in software, product, data, and related roles. For a student focused primarily on entering tech, UW gives you a much more direct pipeline.

The biggest differentiator is recruiting access. At UW, major tech employers are not just occasional visitors, they are deeply woven into the local ecosystem, and students benefit from nearby headquarters, satellite offices, startup activity, and frequent networking opportunities. That makes it easier to build experience during the school year, not just over the summer.

The second difference is the academic and professional environment around computing. UW has a much stronger national reputation in computer science and related technical fields, which matters when recruiters are sorting resumes quickly. Even outside the CS major itself, being on a campus with a dense tech-oriented student culture tends to create more project teams, hackathons, research options, and peer networks tied to industry.

Florida State can still lead to tech jobs, especially if you are proactive and willing to hustle for internships beyond the immediate area. But Tallahassee is not comparable to Seattle as a tech market, so the path is usually less built-in and more dependent on remote recruiting, personal networking, and off-campus searching.

Cost can change the equation if FSU is dramatically cheaper, because lower debt gives you flexibility early in your career. But on recruiting strength, internship access, and the cleanest route into tech, UW has the edge.
