What should I know before taking a CU Boulder campus visit as a prospective student?

I’m a high school junior trying to get a feel for CU Boulder before I apply. I want to make the most of a campus visit and not miss anything important while I’m there.

I’m looking for practical advice on what parts of the visit are most worth paying attention to and what usually helps students get a real sense of the campus.

Before a CU Boulder visit, focus on the parts of campus life that will affect your daily routine: the academic buildings for your intended major, the dorms, the dining halls, and the walk between them. CU Boulder’s campus is spread along the Flatirons, so pay attention to how the size, layout, and elevation feel to you, since you’ll likely be walking a lot.

If you can, sit in on an info session and a tour, then add time to explore on your own. You’ll get a better sense of fit by seeing places students actually use every day, like the UMC, Norlin Library, and the rec center. If you know your intended school or major, ask to stop by that department or speak with a current student in the program.

Try to visit at a time when classes are in session, because the campus energy changes a lot between an empty weekend and a regular weekday. CU Boulder is known for a strong outdoor culture, with lots of students spending time on the trails, lawns, and open spaces, so notice whether that environment feels like somewhere you’d want to study and live.
