Is CU Boulder a good fit for out-of-state students?
I’m an out-of-state high school student looking at CU Boulder and trying to figure out whether it’s a place where students from other states usually feel comfortable and included.
I’m mainly wondering about the overall fit, like campus culture, social scene, and whether it feels easy to adjust if you’re coming from somewhere far away.

Yes, CU Boulder is generally a good fit for out-of-state students, and a large share of the student body comes from outside Colorado. The university is known for a lively, outdoorsy campus culture, so students who like an active social scene and access to mountains, hiking, skiing, and biking often settle in quickly. Boulder itself is also very college-centered, which makes the transition easier because a lot of student life happens both on campus and around town.
CU Boulder has a big-school feel, but it still offers ways for students to find a smaller community through clubs, living-learning communities, and student organizations. That matters for out-of-state students, because it gives you built-in ways to meet people instead of feeling lost in a huge environment. The campus is also nationally known for engineering, business, environmental studies, and aerospace, so many students are drawn there for academics as much as the lifestyle.
