CU Boulder early action vs regular decision: what is the difference in admissions consideration?

I’m applying to CU Boulder and I keep seeing early action and regular decision mentioned, but I’m not totally clear on how they differ in terms of the admissions process.

I want to understand what choosing early action actually changes compared with regular decision, since I’m trying to decide which option makes the most sense for my application.

At CU Boulder, early action mainly changes when you submit and when you hear back, not the actual admissions standards. Your application is still reviewed holistically in either plan, and CU Boulder does not give a formal admissions boost just because you apply early action. The main advantage is earlier notification, plus more time to plan housing, financial aid, and enrollment if you are admitted.

For CU Boulder, early action is typically nonbinding, so you can apply early and still compare offers later. Regular decision is the standard later deadline, with decisions released later in the cycle. In both cases, CU Boulder looks at the same core pieces of your application, including your academic record, rigor of courses, and overall fit.
