Is Tulane considered a party school?

I’m a high school senior trying to figure out whether Tulane has a strong party culture or if that reputation is exaggerated. I’m interested in the overall vibe on campus because I want a school where I can still focus on classes and feel like there are other students with similar priorities.

I keep hearing different things from people online, so I’m trying to understand what day-to-day student life is actually like.

Tulane does have a well-known social scene, but calling it simply a “party school” is too one-dimensional. The reputation is partly rooted in the campus culture around New Orleans, especially events like Mardi Gras and the school’s active Greek life. At the same time, Tulane is a selective university with students who are serious about academics, pre-professional paths, and research, so you’ll absolutely find plenty of people who are focused on classes.

Day to day, the vibe is usually described as balanced but socially energetic. Students often talk about Tulane as a place where people work hard during the week and still enjoy a lively weekends-and-events culture. The university also has a strong service orientation, and many students get involved in community work, clubs, and internships, which helps broaden campus life beyond partying.

So yes, the party reputation is real enough to be noticeable, but it is not the whole story. If you want a school where social life exists alongside academics rather than replacing them, Tulane can fit that well.
