How can I tell if Newcomb-Tulane College at Tulane is a good fit for me?

I’m a high school junior looking at Tulane, and I keep seeing Newcomb-Tulane College mentioned in a way that makes it sound different from a regular college within a university. I’m confused about what the student experience is actually like.

I’m trying to figure out what kinds of students tend to thrive there and whether its academic and advising setup would feel like a good match for someone who wants a strong community but also some flexibility.

Newcomb-Tulane College is likely a good fit if you want the feel of a smaller undergraduate community inside a larger research university. At Tulane, all undergraduates are part of Newcomb-Tulane College, so it is not a separate major-granting school in the usual sense. It mainly oversees undergraduate advising, academic support, student success programs, and parts of the core undergraduate experience.

It can be a strong match if you want close advising without being boxed into a narrow academic path. Tulane is known for giving undergrads meaningful support, and Newcomb-Tulane plays a big role in that through academic advising, honors opportunities, fellowships support, and programs tied to leadership and service. Since Tulane also has a strong public service emphasis, students who enjoy connecting academics with community engagement often feel especially at home.

If you are someone who wants a very small liberal arts college environment where nearly everything feels intimate and professor access is the main draw, Tulane may feel more medium-to-large in scale than you want. But if you like the idea of a residential, spirited campus with strong school identity, flexible academics, and an undergraduate-focused advising system layered onto a larger university, Newcomb-Tulane is probably worth serious consideration.
