What is Tulane University known for academically?

I’m trying to figure out how people usually describe Tulane in terms of academics, not just campus life or location. When I look it up, I see a lot of general info, but I want to understand which programs or academic strengths the school is actually best known for.

I’m a rising senior building my college list, so I’m trying to get a clearer sense of Tulane’s academic reputation.

Tulane is best known academically for public health, business, architecture, political science/international relations, and strong pre-med preparation. It also has a well-known undergraduate focus on service learning, which is more built into the academic experience at Tulane than at many peer schools. If people are describing Tulane in academic terms, they often mention the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, the A.B. Freeman School of Business, and the school’s strengths tied to New Orleans, like public policy, urban issues, and community-based research.

Tulane also has a strong reputation among students interested in medicine because of its advising, research access, and connection to a major medical center.

For business, Freeman is especially known for finance, management, and entrepreneurship, with strong ties to internships and real-world projects. Architecture is another standout area, helped by Tulane’s location and its emphasis on urbanism and design. Political science and international development also get attention, partly because the university attracts students interested in public service and global issues.
