What are Bucknell class sizes like, and how much access do undergraduates have to professors?

I'm trying to figure out whether Bucknell feels more like a place with mostly small, discussion-based classes or if a lot of intro classes are still pretty big. I'm also wondering how easy it is for undergrads to actually get to know their professors.

I'm most interested in the general classroom experience, since I learn better when professors are accessible and classes are not too crowded.

Bucknell generally leans toward smaller, undergraduate-focused classes, and that is one of its stronger selling points.

That said, some introductory courses can still be larger, especially in popular subjects like economics, biology, chemistry, and psychology. Even then, Bucknell is not known for huge lecture halls dominating the undergraduate experience. Most students still move fairly quickly into smaller classes, seminars, labs, and discussion-based formats.

Access to professors is typically very good. Bucknell is focused on undergraduates, so professors are expected to teach and be available to students rather than being primarily graduate-level researchers. Office hours, class discussion, research collaboration, and advising relationships are all real parts of student life there.

In practice, if you participate in class, go to office hours, and follow up on academic interests, it is usually quite possible to get to know professors well. That can be especially helpful for mentoring, research opportunities, and recommendation letters.

If your main concern is avoiding a crowded, anonymous classroom environment, Bucknell is more likely to feel discussion-based and accessible than impersonal.
