What kinds of questions are typically asked in a Boston College interview?

I’m a high school senior getting ready for a possible Boston College interview, and I’m trying to figure out what the conversation is usually like.

I’m not looking for exact scripts, just the common types of questions people tend to get asked so I can prepare without sounding rehearsed.

You should expect broad questions that help the interviewer understand who you are, why you’re interested in BC, and how you think about your experiences.

Common categories include: tell me about yourself, what you’re involved in at school or outside of school, what activity matters most to you, and what you’ve learned from a challenge or setback. They may also ask about academic interests, favorite classes, or what you hope to study.

You should also be ready for school-specific questions like why Boston College, what parts of the university appeal to you, and how you would contribute to the campus community. Since BC emphasizes Jesuit values, service, reflection, community, and intellectual engagement can come up indirectly, even if they are not asked in those exact words.

Other common questions are things like: what are you looking for in a college, how do your friends or teachers describe you, what accomplishment are you proud of, and what do you like to do outside the classroom. Some interviewers may ask about a current event, a book you’ve enjoyed, or something meaningful from your application.

You should also prepare a few thoughtful questions to ask them. Good ones are usually about their experience with BC, campus culture, advising, student life, or how students balance academics with service and extracurriculars.

The best preparation is not memorizing answers. Instead, have a few clear stories ready: one about an activity you care about, one about a challenge, one about an academic interest, and one about why BC fits you specifically.
