Baylor can be more attractive for students offered one of its larger merit awards, particularly if that award closes much of the gap created by Baylor’s higher private-university tuition. For nonresidents, the answer depends far more on the specific offers, since UGA’s out-of-state cost changes the calculation.

UGA’s most notable merit programs, including highly competitive awards such as Foundation Fellowship and the Ramsey Scholars Program, can be exceptionally valuable, but major awards are limited. The practical comparison is the four-year net cost: tuition, mandatory fees, housing, meals, travel, and expected annual increases, minus only guaranteed renewable grants and scholarships. For an in-state applicant, UGA is often hard to beat unless Baylor’s package is unusually generous. For an out-of-state applicant receiving substantial Baylor merit but little UGA aid, Baylor may provide the better financial value.
