Penn State has an exceptionally active traditional college experience, centered on a huge campus community in State College. Football weekends, THON, student organizations, downtown bars and restaurants, recreation, and Greek life can make the school highly social, especially for students who enjoy large-scale school spirit and organized campus traditions. Its setting is more contained, so much of the fun is built around Penn State events and the student body rather than a major city’s cultural life.

Tulane’s social scene is often more eclectic and less tied to one activity or group. Penn State can feel more communal during major events, while Tulane offers more everyday options for students who want to explore food, music, art, and nightlife alongside their friends.
