Is Northwestern or Ohio State more prestigious for undergraduate business?

For broad national academic prestige, Northwestern is more widely recognized as the higher-prestige institution. Its overall reputation is especially strong with employers and graduate or professional schools, even though Northwestern does not offer a traditional undergraduate business major through Kellogg. At Ohio State, business students can earn a dedicated undergraduate degree from the Fisher College of Business, which provides a clearer conventional business-school path.

Northwestern fits a student who wants the signaling value of a highly regarded private research university and is comfortable studying business-adjacent fields such as economics, mathematics, statistics, or learning and organizational change. Kellogg is a major name in graduate business education, but undergraduates should not assume they are Kellogg students or receive the same curriculum. For many employers, a Northwestern economics or quantitative degree can still be very attractive.

Ohio State fits a student who wants business to be the center of their undergraduate education from the start. Fisher offers established business majors, student organizations, career programming, and recruiting connections. Within Ohio and much of the Midwest, Fisher has substantial name recognition and a strong alumni network.

So, if “prestige” means the institution’s broad national reputation, Northwestern carries more weight. If it means graduating with a recognizable undergraduate business degree and accessing a business-focused campus recruiting ecosystem, Ohio State Fisher can be the more direct and practical choice.
