Which has stronger school spirit, NYU or Boston College?

The biggest practical tradeoff is that Boston College’s spirit is built around a residential campus and major athletics, while NYU’s community is spread across New York City and is less centered on school-wide traditions. At BC, football weekends, hockey games, tailgates, and competition create visible, recurring moments when large parts of the student body identify as Eagles. Its Chestnut Hill campus also makes it easier for students to run into one another and participate in events together.

NYU has active clubs, student organizations, performances, and campus programming, but its culture is more decentralized. Students often form their strongest communities through a particular school, residence hall, identity-based organization, or activity rather than through university-wide athletic enthusiasm. NYU competes in Division III, and although its teams have dedicated supporters, games do not tend to set the social calendar in the same way BC athletics do.

Boston College has the stronger traditional school spirit and more consistent all-campus participation in recognizable events. NYU can offer an energetic, socially active experience, especially for students who want the city itself to be central to college life, but it is not the place to choose primarily for a classic unified campus atmosphere.
