At Northeastern, experiential learning is coordinated through college-specific co-op offices and integrated into the academic calendar. Students can pursue domestic or global co-ops, research, service learning, entrepreneurship, and project-based courses, but co-op timing can affect when they take classes and how easily they participate in a conventional four-year campus rhythm. For a student who wants a clear, supported path to sustained professional placements, that structure is a major advantage.

NYU’s strongest practical asset is location. Students can intern during fall, spring, or summer while taking courses, and many programs use New York institutions and companies as extensions of the classroom. NYU also provides undergraduate research opportunities through faculty labs and academic departments, along with global study options through its international sites. However, students often need to be more proactive about finding, applying for, and balancing opportunities than they would in Northeastern’s formal co-op system.
