For academics, compare the exact undergraduate school and program rather than the university names alone. Course requirements, class sizes in your intended major, access to professors, research opportunities, and the ease of changing majors can differ substantially within each institution. NYU may be especially compelling for fields tied closely to New York, such as finance, media, arts, fashion, publishing, policy, and some tech roles. USC has notable depth across business, engineering, cinematic arts, communications, entrepreneurship, and programs connected to the Los Angeles economy.

Student life will feel meaningfully different. NYU students live in and navigate the city, so social life, internships, entertainment, and independence are integrated into everyday life; that can be energizing but less cohesive than a contained campus.
