Binghamton, as part of SUNY, is often particularly cost-effective for New York residents, and its lower expenses can give graduates more flexibility to take entry-level jobs, attend graduate school, or relocate after college. Compare renewable grants, housing, transportation, and health-insurance costs over four years rather than treating the first-year offer as the full picture.

Academically, the better choice depends more on program than on an overall prestige label.
