Temple offers much better access to a city because it is located in Philadelphia rather than near one. Its Main Campus is in North Philadelphia, and students can use SEPTA’s Broad Street Line from the nearby Cecil B. Moore station to reach Center City, sports venues, museums, restaurants, and many internship neighborhoods without needing a car. For day-to-day city life, Philadelphia is part of the Temple experience rather than an occasional destination.

That location also makes internships and cultural activities more practical during the academic year. Center City, University City, and areas such as Fishtown and South Philadelphia are accessible by subway, bus, regional rail, or a manageable rideshare, while Philadelphia International Airport and Amtrak’s 30th Street Station expand options for weekend travel. Students should still pay attention to their surroundings and use normal urban safety habits, particularly at night, but they have immediate access to a major city’s resources.

William & Mary is in historic Williamsburg, a walkable college town with Colonial Williamsburg, local restaurants, and some nearby entertainment, but it does not provide the same urban environment. Richmond is the closest major city and is roughly an hour away by car, making it more realistic for planned weekend visits or particular internships than spontaneous evenings out. Williamsburg’s Amtrak station offers useful rail connections, including service toward Richmond and the Northeast, yet transit is not a substitute for living within a city. For students who want frequent access to museums, neighborhoods, professional opportunities, and varied nightlife, Temple has the clear advantage.
