Which has warmer weather for college: UIUC or the University of South Florida?

The biggest practical tradeoff is that USF offers genuinely warm winters and outdoor-friendly weather most of the year, while UIUC has a full Midwest winter with sustained cold, freezing temperatures, and occasional snow and ice. At UIUC in Urbana-Champaign, fall can be pleasant but cools quickly, and spring weather can be variable. Summers are warm to hot and humid, with thunderstorms.

USF’s Tampa campus has a subtropical climate. Winters are mild, with many comfortable days for walking around campus in light layers rather than a heavy coat. Summer is hotter, very humid, and rainy; the area also has a hurricane season to take seriously. Tampa’s cooler season is typically one of its most appealing stretches, whereas Urbana-Champaign’s most comfortable outdoor period is more concentrated in spring and early fall.

For year-round warmth, the University of South Florida is the clear choice. UIUC can be a great place to experience distinct seasons, but it will not provide the consistently warm climate you are looking for.
