Which offers a better overall student experience: Arizona State or Boston University?

Its Tempe campus is built around traditional college life: student events, major athletics, clubs, Greek life, and a dense concentration of students living and socializing near campus. Boston University is academically vibrant and highly connected to the city, but its urban layout can make daily life feel less like a single shared campus experience.

At ASU, the physical setting encourages casual interaction. Palm Walk, the Memorial Union, athletic events, and the Mill Avenue area create regular gathering points, while the warm weather supports an outdoors-oriented social scene for much of the year. Because ASU is very large, students need to make an effort to find a smaller circle through a major, residence hall, organization, or program, but there are abundant ways to do that.

BU’s campus runs along Commonwealth Avenue, with academic buildings, residence halls, restaurants, and public transit woven into Boston rather than separated from it. That gives students immediate access to internships, museums, neighborhoods, and city activities, and the MBTA makes much of Boston reachable without a car. The tradeoff is that students often move between buildings and city destinations rather than congregating in one central campus hub.

BU may feel more compelling for someone who wants an intense, fast-paced urban routine and expects to use Boston as part of college life. For a senior specifically prioritizing a recognizable campus culture, frequent school-spirit events, and a more traditional social environment, ASU has the clearer advantage.
