ASU’s Tempe campus sits in the Phoenix metropolitan area, so students can easily tap into city restaurants, internships, pro sports, and nightlife. Cal Poly is in a smaller Central Coast college town, where campus life and the surrounding SLO community blend more closely.

ASU can feel energetic and highly customizable. There are students with many different schedules, living situations, academic interests, and levels of involvement, so finding a niche is easy, but it can take more initiative to create a close-knit routine. The Tempe campus itself is walkable and active, with major athletics, student organizations, and frequent programming, yet the overall ASU experience is more spread across a large urban area and multiple campuses.

The campus is also known for an outdoors-oriented culture, with hiking, beaches, and downtown SLO playing a real role in student weekends. That smaller setting can feel welcoming and easy to navigate, though it offers less of the big-city variety available around ASU.
