Delaware or Boston University for finance careers?
I’m trying to decide between these two schools and I want to study finance. Both seem like they could lead to good internships and jobs, but I’m not sure which one has a stronger path into finance careers.
I’m mainly trying to figure out which school would be the better choice if my goal is to break into finance after college.

The biggest practical tradeoff is access versus cost and intensity: Boston University puts you in Boston with stronger day-to-day proximity to finance employers, alumni, and internships during the school year, while Delaware can offer a more affordable path with a well-regarded business school and solid recruiting, especially if you perform at the top of the class. For finance specifically, BU benefits from its urban location, broad employer visibility, and the fact that students can build experience during semesters more easily. Delaware’s Lerner College is respected, but the route into the most competitive finance roles is usually less automatic and can require more deliberate networking.
If your target means high-finance paths like investment banking, buy-side roles, or highly selective finance internships, BU has the clearer edge. Its location matters a lot because students can intern, attend employer events, and connect with alumni without needing to leave campus life behind. BU also tends to have stronger name recognition in major finance markets, which helps when getting an initial look from recruiters.
That said, Delaware is not a weak option at all for finance. It can work very well for corporate finance, accounting-related finance tracks, commercial banking, and other business roles, especially if you are cost-conscious and motivated enough to chase internships aggressively. Being a standout student there can be a real advantage, and graduating with less debt matters in a field where your first job may not immediately be your ideal one.
If the price difference is manageable, Boston University is the better choice for breaking into finance because it gives you a more direct runway to internships, networking, and recruiting. If Delaware is significantly cheaper, the decision becomes closer, because lower debt plus strong performance can outweigh some of BU’s recruiting advantages.
