Which is better for starting a finance career: the University of Delaware or the University of San Francisco?
I’m a high school senior deciding between the University of Delaware and the University of San Francisco for finance. I’m mainly interested in which school would provide stronger preparation and recruiting opportunities for entry-level finance jobs after graduation.

For a traditional entry-level finance path, especially corporate finance, commercial banking, asset management, or East Coast recruiting, the University of Delaware is likely the more practical choice. Its Lerner College of Business has a larger public-university business-school ecosystem, an established regional alumni base, and useful proximity to Philadelphia, New York, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C. University of San Francisco can be the more compelling option for a student specifically targeting Bay Area finance, fintech, venture capital-adjacent work, or wealth management.
Delaware suits the student who wants a broader campus experience while building toward internships with mid-Atlantic and Northeast employers. Finance recruiting is relationship- and location-driven, so being able to pursue semester and summer opportunities in Philadelphia or New York matters. A Delaware student should actively use finance clubs, alumni outreach, career events, and early internship applications rather than assume on-campus recruiting alone will produce a Wall Street role.
USF fits a student who wants to be immersed in San Francisco’s business environment and is comfortable networking assertively with smaller firms, startups, fintech companies, and local financial-services employers. Its location can create access to Bay Area professionals during the academic year, but the city’s high cost of living and the school’s smaller scale are important practical considerations. It is less naturally positioned for the large East Coast bank recruiting pipelines that many students associate with conventional finance careers.
For most students seeking the widest range of entry-level finance options at a more value-conscious price, Delaware has the edge. USF becomes the stronger personal fit when the student has a clear Bay Area focus and intends to make location-based networking a central part of college.
