Is Colby or NYU better for business undergrad?

NYU is the better choice for undergraduate business. It has a direct, widely recognized business school in Stern, much deeper recruiting for finance, consulting, and corporate roles, and a location in New York that gives students unusual access to internships during the school year. Colby is a strong liberal arts college, but it does not offer the same scale of business coursework, employer pipeline, or immediate name recognition in business hiring.

The biggest difference is the academic structure. NYU Stern is built specifically for undergraduates who want business, with a full curriculum in finance, marketing, accounting, management, and related areas, plus access to the larger NYU ecosystem. At Colby, you would be approaching business more indirectly through economics, mathematics, statistics, or government, which can work well, but it is not the same as being in a dedicated undergraduate business program.

Recruiting also tilts clearly toward NYU. Stern has longstanding relationships with banks, consulting firms, and major employers, and students benefit from both on-campus recruiting and semester-time internships in the city. Colby students can absolutely place well, especially if they are proactive and academically strong, but the path is usually less structured and less saturated with business-specific opportunities.

For post-grad name value, the distinction is similar. In business circles, especially finance and corporate recruiting, NYU Stern carries a very immediate signal because employers know exactly what training and student profile they are getting. Colby’s name is respected, particularly in liberal arts and certain graduate school paths, but for someone who already expects to pursue business, NYU gives a more direct and more widely legible advantage.
