Is Florida State or LSU better for a business degree?

The biggest practical tradeoff is this: Florida State tends to offer broader recruiting reach and a stronger overall business reputation, while LSU can be especially appealing if you want to build your network in Louisiana and nearby Gulf South markets. For business specifically, FSU’s College of Business is usually the more nationally visible option, and Tallahassee puts you in a setting with lots of internship access tied to state government, policy, real estate, consulting, and finance-adjacent work. LSU has solid business programs too, but its strongest career pull is often more regional.

If you are undecided within business, FSU usually gives you a safer bet. Its business school has stronger name recognition across more states, which matters if you may want to work in Florida, Atlanta, Charlotte, Texas, or other large Southeastern job markets after graduation. Florida’s economy is also simply very large and diverse, which can help with internships in fields like finance, marketing, management, hospitality-related business, and sales.

LSU can still make a lot of sense depending on your goals. If you think you may stay in Louisiana or the Baton Rouge/New Orleans/Houston corridor, LSU’s alumni base is meaningful and can be very helpful for internships and first jobs. It can be particularly useful in industries with a strong Gulf Coast presence, including energy, logistics, and regional corporate roles.

For most students choosing purely on business strength and flexibility, I’d lean Florida State. It usually gives you wider geographic mobility and somewhat stronger overall momentum in business recruiting. I’d only put LSU ahead if cost is clearly better there or if you know you want to build your career primarily in Louisiana or that specific regional network.
