Florida State vs Boston University for internships: which has better opportunities and access?

Boston University has the edge for internships and day-to-day access. Its location in Boston puts students in the middle of a dense job market during the school year, and BU students can more realistically intern part time without needing to relocate for the semester or summer.

The biggest differentiator is geography. BU is surrounded by hospitals, biotech firms, finance companies, startups, media organizations, nonprofits, and major corporate offices, so there are simply more nearby options across a wide range of fields. That matters because easy transit access often turns internships from something you do only in the summer into something you can build into the academic year.

Florida State can still be very good, especially for government, public policy, politics, law-related work, and Florida-based opportunities. Being in Tallahassee gives FSU students proximity to the state capitol, state agencies, lobbying groups, and related organizations, which is a real advantage for those paths. The issue is that the surrounding internship market is narrower than Boston’s, especially for industries like finance, media, tech, and biotech.

On school support, both universities offer career services and employer connections, but BU’s location amplifies the value of that support because students can act on opportunities more quickly and more often. For pure internship access across the broadest set of industries, BU is the stronger option.
