Is Purdue or Georgetown better for finance careers?

Georgetown is the better choice for finance careers. Its strongest edge is employer access: being in Washington, DC puts students close to major finance, consulting, policy, and investment organizations, and Georgetown’s alumni network is especially active in business-facing fields. For internships and first jobs, that combination usually creates a clearer pipeline into high-finance and other selective finance roles than Purdue.

Purdue is absolutely respected, but its biggest national reputation is still more tied to engineering, technology, and quantitative fields than to traditional finance recruiting. That does not mean finance is out of reach there. Students can still land strong outcomes, especially in corporate finance, finance roles tied to industrial or technical companies, and analytically oriented paths where Purdue’s strengths matter. But for pure recruiting advantage in finance, especially at the internship stage, Georgetown usually opens more doors sooner.

The alumni factor matters a lot here too. Georgetown’s network is particularly influential on the East Coast and in cities where finance hiring is concentrated, and that can matter when so much of recruiting depends on informational interviews, referrals, and club-based preparation. Purdue’s alumni base is large and loyal, but for finance specifically, Georgetown’s network is more directly aligned with the jobs you are targeting.
