Which is better for finance careers: Purdue or Northeastern?

I’m trying to decide between Purdue and Northeastern and I’m mainly interested in finance careers after college. I know both schools have strong reputations, but I want to understand which one might give me a better path into finance through recruiting, internships, and alumni connections.

I’m not looking for a ranking of the schools in general, just which one tends to be stronger for getting started in finance.

Northeastern is usually the stronger option for getting started in finance, mainly because of its location in Boston, its co-op structure, and its closer day-to-day access to finance internships during the school year. For a student focused on early experience, that combination often matters more than broad school reputation.

The biggest differentiator is Northeastern’s co-op system. Finance hiring is very experience-driven, and having a built-in full-time work term can make it much easier to graduate with relevant resume lines instead of only one summer internship. That matters a lot in finance, where employers often look for students who have already worked in analyst-style environments before applying for post-grad roles.

Boston also gives Northeastern students a practical edge. Being in a major city means easier access to part-time internships, networking events, alumni meetups, and employer visits during the semester. For finance, proximity helps because many opportunities come from repeated exposure, quick coffee chats, and being available for off-cycle roles that are much harder to manage from a more isolated campus.

Purdue is a very solid school, and it can absolutely lead to finance careers, especially in corporate finance, operations-focused business roles, and positions tied to large companies in the Midwest. Its alumni network is strong and the brand carries weight.

Northeastern often gives students more chances to test different finance paths before graduation. A student can try one co-op in corporate finance and another in investment or analytics-related work, which can make full-time recruiting more targeted and credible.
