Is UVA or Georgetown better for consulting recruiting?

The biggest practical tradeoff is this: UVA tends to offer a deeper, more structured undergraduate pipeline into consulting, while Georgetown gives you a strong brand name and a Washington, DC location that can be especially useful for certain policy, economic, and federal-adjacent consulting paths. For mainstream management consulting, UVA has a very visible edge because firms recruit heavily there, especially through McIntire and the broader pre-professional ecosystem. Georgetown still places well, but the consulting path can feel a bit less centralized and more dependent on how proactively you build the right experiences and network.

At UVA, the combination of McIntire, strong student clubs, and a very established on-campus recruiting culture makes consulting especially accessible. Alumni presence at major firms is strong, and UVA students often benefit from a clear playbook for case prep, internships, and full-time recruiting. Even outside McIntire, students can break into consulting, but the business-school infrastructure helps create momentum.

Georgetown absolutely has consulting outcomes too, and its location matters. Being in DC can help with internships during the school year, and Georgetown is well positioned for firms or practices tied to public sector consulting, economic consulting, and government-facing work. The alumni network is influential, but for pure undergraduate management consulting recruiting, it is not usually seen as quite as concentrated as UVA’s.

One more distinction is campus culture around recruiting. UVA often has a more organized feeder-school feel for consulting and finance, which can make it easier to know where to plug in early. Georgetown offers plenty of ambitious peers and opportunities, but the path can be a bit more self-directed.

If your main goal is maximizing your odds for traditional consulting recruiting right out of undergrad, I’d give UVA the advantage. Georgetown becomes more compelling if you want consulting with a DC-policy angle, or if you strongly prefer its location and network and are comfortable taking a more self-driven approach to the process.
