Which is better for chemical engineering: the University of Virginia or the University of Delaware?

For a student who wants the most chemical-engineering-centered undergraduate environment, the University of Delaware has a slight edge. Delaware’s chemical engineering department is a long-standing strength, and its location near major industrial employers gives students practical advantages for internships, research, and early-career connections. Its program is particularly appealing for students drawn to process design, polymers, catalysis, separations, energy, and traditional chemical-industry work.

UVA is an excellent choice for a student who wants chemical engineering within a broader, highly interdisciplinary engineering and research setting. Its program can be especially attractive for interests that overlap with biomedical engineering, materials, sustainability, energy, computation, or entrepreneurship. UVA also offers the larger university experience, strong undergraduate research culture, and flexibility to explore across engineering and the sciences before committing to a narrow career direction.

Both schools offer ABET-accredited chemical engineering degrees, so either can prepare you well for engineering jobs or graduate school.
