Which is better for business, UVA or UCLA?
I’m trying to compare these two schools for business and keep seeing different opinions depending on who I ask. I’m mostly looking at the overall strength of the business program and how well each school is viewed for business careers.
I’m a current high school student trying to narrow down my list, so I want a simple comparison of UVA versus UCLA for business.

UVA has the clearer edge for undergraduate business. Its McIntire School of Commerce is one of the most established and best-known undergrad business programs in the country, and UVA has a very direct reputation among employers for finance, consulting, accounting, and general business recruiting.
The biggest difference is the structure of the business program itself. At UVA, McIntire is a dedicated undergraduate commerce school with a very intentional curriculum in areas like finance, accounting, marketing, and management, plus a strong case-based and team-oriented approach that mirrors business work. UCLA is excellent overall, but it does not have a standalone undergraduate business school in the same way, so students interested in business usually approach it through economics, business economics, or related majors rather than a comparably direct undergrad business path.
Recruiting is another major separator. UVA has especially strong placement into East Coast finance and consulting, with McIntire carrying real weight in those pipelines. UCLA certainly has strong access to employers too, especially in California and in industries tied to media, entertainment, tech, and entrepreneurship, but for a student specifically asking about undergraduate business strength and traditional business career perception, UVA is more consistently viewed as the purpose-built option.
UCLA still brings major advantages through its overall brand, Los Angeles location, and huge alumni network. But if the question is simply which school is stronger for business as an undergraduate field of study and business recruiting identity, UVA is the one that stands out more clearly.
