Is Arizona State or Georgetown harder to get into?

I'm trying to get a better sense of how selective different colleges are as I build my list. I know some schools are much more competitive than others, but I’m not sure how Arizona State and Georgetown compare in general admissions difficulty.

I’m mainly trying to understand which one is harder to get into overall.

Georgetown is much harder to get into overall than Arizona State. Georgetown is a highly selective private university with a more competitive applicant pool, a more involved application process, and a stronger emphasis on very high academic performance across rigorous coursework. Arizona State is selective in some programs, but the university as a whole is far more accessible and admits a much broader range of students.

The kind of student who is realistically in the mix for Georgetown usually has a very strong transcript, challenging classes, and a polished application across the board. Georgetown also asks for more school-specific effort than many colleges, which tends to attract students who are intentionally applying to a smaller set of competitive schools. That makes the overall admissions bar meaningfully higher.

Arizona State fits a different lane. It is a large public university with wide access and many pathways to admission, so overall admissions difficulty is much lower. A student with solid grades and a reasonably consistent academic record is much more likely to be competitive there, even if they would not be close to Georgetown’s level.

One important nuance is program-level selectivity. At ASU, some majors or special programs can be more competitive than the university overall, but that still does not put ASU in the same general admissions category as Georgetown. If your question is simply which school is harder to get into overall, the answer is Georgetown by a wide margin.
